Shark is a company that has been manufacturing vacuums for some time. In this article, we’re going to be looking at their most modern product line, that of the Shark ION Robot Vacuums. We’ll be comparing the Shark ION R75, the Shark ION R85, and the Shark ION S87, looking at the different features that they offer so that you can come to a good conclusion about which robot vacuum is the right one for you!
SHARK ION Robot Vacuum R75
First on the list is the Shark ION R75. This is the cheapest model on the list, but don’t let that fool you, this is still an excellent robotic vacuum.
When you first buy the product, you’ll notice it weighs five-and-a-half pounds, and it has a circular shape, just like most other robotic vacuums. This allows it to go underneath couches and chairs easily.
To create a schedule for the vacuum, you can use your smartphone – and Amazon Alexa, as well – to create schedules for the robot to vacuum. You cannot, however, create specific routes for the vacuum to follow.
Even though you can’t create specific routes for the vacuum, it comes equipped with a variety of sensors, which allow it to easily adapt to the different obstacles that are in its way. This gives the robot the freedom to create pathways on the fly, without you having to move and adjust either the robot vacuum or the surroundings constantly.
The Shark R75 runs on a Lithium-ION battery – this is why the word “ION” is in the vacuum’s name – and this gives the vacuum one-hour of unbroken cleaning time. Now, when the vacuum runs out of power, it goes straight to the dock, to recharge. You don’t have to do anything, which makes the process VERY convenient!
To empty the dustbin, you simply press a button and pull it out, from the side of the robot vacuum. Again, this is a very convenient setup, and it makes the process of cleaning your floors very simple.
As for how it cleans, you have a “Self-Grooming” system that lets the brushroll untangle long hairs and strands of fur and string, on its own, without your input. The brushroll itself has been designed to work well with carpets and hard floors, and since the design is so low-key, it can easily go underneath certain objects to get the dirt and debris that most vacuums would normally miss!
SHARK ION Robot Vacuum R85
In comparison to the R75, there aren’t too many distinct differences. However, the Shark ION R85 robot vacuum does expand on several of the R75s capabilities, such as having a larger dustbin, and suction that is far more powerful, and far more useful in sucking up things like pet hair, for example.
First and foremost, according to the marketing material for the Shark ION R85, this robot vacuum has more than three times the suction power as the R75, when the vacuum is in “Max Mode”, which is the highest setting.
Along with this, there is the fact that it has been designed to manage and suck up pet hair far more easily. This is because of the self-cleaning brush roll, which the R75 also has, but also because of the enhanced suction capabilities, which make the entire process far easier.
If you have pets, this is definitely a better choice than the R75.
The same is true if you have a much bigger home. Not because the battery-life is longer, but because the dustbin is quite a bit larger, so you don’t have to empty it as much, making it easier for you to turn the vacuum on.

Shark Robot Cleaning System S87
The Shark ION S87 is, essentially, the ultimate robotic vacuum. It has all of the features of the R85, but it also contains the Shark ION W1 Cordless Handheld Vacuum, as well, allowing you to mix and match depending on what it is that you’re cleaning.
Once again, it supports Amazon Alexa and has smartphone functionality. The dustbin is very large, and the suction power is excellent. The features are the same as the R85, the only difference being the inclusion of the ION W1.
The ION W1 is excellent. It’s an incredibly powerful, and very light, handheld vacuum that allows you to reach the spots that the robot vacuum can’t reach.
If you know that a robot vacuum won’t be enough to reach certain areas, then this might be the best choice for you. If not, the other two are certainly more than adequate!
Well, that’s it for this SHARK ION Robot Vacuum R75 vs R85 vs S87 Comparison. We hope you found it helpful!
