First, they remove allergens from your air. This means that if you suffer from allergies, a good air purifier, such as the two we are looking at, will eliminate these allergens, greatly reducing the risk of allergies and allergy-related illnesses.

Second, air purifiers remove pollutants from your air. This means you aren’t breathing in various germs and other types of bacteria that can infect your body.

Third, and last, of all, air purifiers make your home smell nicer. Not all of them do, but these two are designed to make your home smell extra nice.

AeraMax 300 Air Purifier Review

Right away, you’ll notice that the AeraMax 300 is a very nice-looking device. The aesthetic is minimalist but quite beautiful, and the design is very simplistic. Everything is marked, and you won’t have any trouble figuring out what each button does.

AeraMax 300
AeraMax 300

It has been designed for rooms that are between 300 and 600 square feet. This isn’t exactly the largest amount of space, but this air purifier weighs only 12.5 pounds, so you can move it to other rooms and spaces if you want.

Now, the AeraMax 300 is an automatic air purifier, which means you don’t need to set any of the speeds or settings. Instead, using the sensors that the AeraMax 300 possesses, the device will detect the quality of your air, and adjust itself to the proper purification mode.

The filtration system it uses is incredibly powerful. It consists of four different stages, that are designed to purify the air in your room most thoroughly and completely.

First off, there is the Carbon Filter. This is a filter that is used to capture all of the larger particles, as well as all of the different odors and nasty stenches that are in your room/space. Using this filter, if you have a room that smells bad, the particles that are making that smell will be eradicated.

Second, there is the True-HEPA filter, which is used to remove all of the smaller particles. Specifically, particles that are as small as 0.3 microns, such as pollen and mold spores.

Third, is the area of safe Antimicrobial Treatment. This is a treatment that all of the particles go through, to prevent the growth and spread of the microbes flowing through the purifier.

Finally, there is the PlasmaTrue Technology, which creates an ionized field to eradicate the remaining particles.

Winix 5500-2 Air Purifier Review

The Winix 5500-2 is a similar air purifier because it possesses many similar features and technologies. However, we’ll start with the main differences, before diving into the similarities.

Unlike the AeraMax 300, the Winix 5500-2 has been designed to purify spaces that are, at most 360 square feet. This isn’t that large of a space, but the Winix 5500-2 does a fantastic job purifying a space of that size.

While using the Winix 5500-2, you have four different fan speeds to choose from. Low, Medium, High, and Turbo. However, there is also an “Automatic” mode, which uses the device’s sensors to detect the quality of your air, at any given time. This data is fed back into the air purifier, and the air purifier chooses the fan speed for you.

You can see what the quality of your air is, at any time, by looking at a small LED indicator. Good air is the color blue. Bad air is red. Air that isn’t good, or bad, is amber.

If you are going to bed, and you turn off the lights while the air purifier is running, it will detect just how much ambient light is in the room. Then, the Winix 5500-2 will adjust its fan speed and the intensity of the indicator light, to accommodate the amount of ambient light in your room. This is a very convenient feature since you don’t need to manually adjust those settings if you are going to sleep.

The filtration process itself is rather simple, and not as thorough as the one found in the AeraMax 300. However, with that being said, it is just as effective, and it will thoroughly clean all of the nasty particles in your air.

First, you have the Advanced Odor Control Carbon Filter. This filter is designed to eliminate nasty odors, as well as things like smoke. If you have a room/space that is full of nasty smells, or a lot of smoke, then this is an incredibly useful filter.

Second, you have the True-HEPA filter. With the True-HEPA filter, you’ll be able to eliminate, according to Winix, 99.97% of all airborne particles. This includes things like mold spores, pollen, pet dander, dust, smoke particles, and microbes.

Finally, you have the PlasmaWave Technology which, just like the AeraMax 300, creates an ionic field that eliminates all of the remaining particles.

If you want to purify larger spaces, and you want more mobility, then you can’t go wrong with the AeraMax 300. This is also the more thorough air purifier.

However, if you want something a little cheaper, that has been designed for smaller spaces, then the Winix 5500-2 is a great choice because it has been designed to clean small rooms and spaces thoroughly.

If you have a large space you want to remove irritants from, We recommend the Airmega 400. All of Coway air purifiers do an excellent job of attacking indoor pollutants, and we highly recommend any of them.
The Levoit Vista 200 air purifier has some strong suits, but in our opinion it falls short of carving out a meaningful niche for itself. Its ideal use would be in a small bedroom occupied by someone who is sensitive to noise.
With high end air cleaning performance, the Honeywell HPA300 is the perfect combination of power and finesse. It cleared airborne particulates out of a smokey testing room faster than most air purifiers.
