Barista Express Impress Espresso Machine Review

Built for the third-wave coffee connoisseur or anyone aspiring for just a great experience. The ease of use to accomplish otherwise complicated steps in extracting the best flavor of your beans is done almost effortlessly by the Barista Express Impress espresso machine.

Barista Express Impress Introduction

That was how we felt when we put this machine up against some of the other heavy hitters in the espresso maker space. From the aesthetics that struck us upon unboxing, to the ease of setting it all up, to tasting the numerous brews that it produced, our appreciation of the Barista Express was unanimous.

An espresso machine shines when it can give you consistent brews each time. But there is a human element in the process that alters how much tamping and compression happens. That human element is removed from the process by the Barista Express.

Being able to live up to third-wave expectations requires precise handling of complex flavors. The Barista Express handles this by grinding what is needed when it is needed – between eighteen and twenty-two grams of roasted beans depending on the dose you decide on.

Grinder

The Barista Express comes with an integrated bur grinder instead of a blade. That’s part of the reason we were able to deliver consistently. The bur grinder is able to crush the beans to uniform sizes, while a blade grinder would result in uneven grains.

It was easy to choose how coarse we wanted the grounds, with twenty-five different settings available on a dial. The ability to control the granularity of the beans means you determine the flavor quality you are looking for.

The Barista Express exceeded our expectations in this regard.

Water

Water quality and temperature are key to allowing the flavor of the roast to live up to its potential. We tested the steam temperature and found it to be consistent every single time. Between the consistency of the water temperature and the consistency of the grain size, we were able to produce constant flavor profiles for every blend.

The Barista Express can hold two liters of water. It uses the Thermocoil heating system with a PID control system in the background constantly measuring and adjusting the heating process to deliver precise water pressure and temperature.

The PID even controls the flow rate of the steam as you pull the shot. We measured each pull and found them to be precise.

Once again, the Barista Express went beyond expectations.

Tamping

The precision of the final cup is also dependent on how well the grounds are packed or tamped down. To keep it consistent the Barista Express has a tamping assistant that applies precisely 10 kg of force and a barista twist to get the perfect packing and polished puck every time.

The more we tested the Barista Express, the more we appreciated their attention to detail and their ability to deliver a machine that delivered consistent espresso every time.
