Today, we’re looking at the Honeywell HCM350W Humidifier. This is a great cool mist humidifier that comes from Honeywell, one of the most well-known humidifier manufacturers.
We’re looking at the individual features and attributes of this particular humidifier, and what it can do for you.
However, before we get into the humidifier itself, let’s look at what a cool mist humidifier is, and why they are so beneficial.
What Is A Cool Mist Humidifier?
There are basically two types of humidifiers; Warm mist humidifiers, and cool mist humidifiers.
Warm mist humidifiers take water that is heated, and they turn that water into warm moisture – or “mist”.
Cool mist humidifiers do something similar, but they release cooler moisture into the air.
Most people choose cool mist humidifiers over warm mist humidifiers, due to the variety of different models and brands that are on the market. But, they both have many distinct advantages.
Generally speaking, there are two kinds of cool mist humidifiers — ultrasonic, and evaporative.
Ultrasonic uses sound waves to break up the water that is in the humidifier into a nice, cool mist. With an evaporative humidifier, water flows into something known as a “wick filter” – this is a surface that makes it easier for the water to evaporate – and then a fan blows this moisture into the air.
What Are The Benefits Of A Cool Mist Humidifier?
In comparison to warm mist humidifiers, they are a lot more energy efficient. They use much less electricity. This is because nothing needs to be heated up, and heating often uses a lot of electricity.
Since they don’t require any sort of heating tool, they are a lot more inexpensive than warm mist humidifiers. And, they can cover far more space.
However, there are also a couple of other key benefits that they bring.
Dry air can easily lead to sinus infections and other illnesses. But, since a cool mist humidifier spreads lots of moisture into your air, it moistens those nasal passages. Because of this, it is a lot less probable that you will get sick or suffer from something like that.
Bacteria and viruses can easily thrive in warm air. But, with a cool mist humidifier, they have a much harder time doing so. This means that your overall risk of sickness in general – not just sinus infections – is significantly lessened.
If you have house plants, dry air can lead to their demise. But, with a cool mist humidifier, the moisture that is being put into the air ensures that they continue to live.
The Honeywell HCM350W
You’ll first notice just how small and portable this humidifier. It has a tank that can hold one-gallon of water. This may not be a lot, but if you fill up the tank, and run it on low, it will last for 24 hours.
So, if you live in a small apartment or want to increase the humidity in a specific room, then this humidifier is a good choice.
Since this is an evaporative humidifier, this ensures that you won’t over-humidify the air in your room. Evaporation does not allow for you to add too much moisture into your air. This makes the risk of that happening practically zero.
The tank is very easy to use because it has a nice handle at the top. Along with that, you can simply clean it out in the sink, and then dry it off. This will be after a few weeks or so. And then, once you do that, it’s as good as new!
Due to the process of humidification, which involves the dry air entering the humidifier and then being released, the filtration can eliminate up to 99 percent of all germs in the air. Germs, such as allergens and viruses and other pesky nuisances.
However, before the water is even humidified – and chances are, you’ll be using tap water for this – it is exposed to UV light. This UV light kills any of the bacteria that is in the water. Ensuring that the moisture that is put into your home is nice and clean, without any of the germs that are often found in tap water.
At the end of the day, the Honeywell HCM350W is an excellent cool mist humidifier. It may not be designed for very large spaces, and it may lack some of the more advanced features of other humidifiers.
But, it has every basic feature that you could want, it’s easy to use, it works very well, and it’s affordable!
