Robot vacuums are excellent! With a robot vacuum, you don’t have to vacuum your floors, instead, the robot vacuum does it for you. This is wonderful, because it frees up plenty of time, not to mention energy, that you can then spend on things that are more important to you.
Manufacturers have realized just how popular robot vacuums are, and they’ve started developing their own. Today, there are a lot of different robot vacuums, and quite a few different robot vacuum brands and product lines.
Even though there are so many different robot vacuums out there, and even though so many manufacturers are putting out their unique robot vacuums, iRobot is still the best manufacturer.
Here’s the thing about iRobot; they were one of the first manufacturers to put out a great robot vacuum. It was called the “Roomba”, and today, there are a lot of different Roomba vacuums available.
Just about every robot vacuum is built off of the design principles that the Roomba introduced. You’ve probably noticed that most robot vacuums look exactly alike, and that’s because the Roomba introduced many of the key tenets of that design, and other manufacturers have used it due to just how effective it is!
In this guide, you are going to learn about three excellent Roomba robot vacuums. These robot vacuums are the Roomba 860, Roomba 890, and then the Roomba 891. Each one of these robot vacuums is quite similar, but also different in a couple of notable ways.
What Does The Roomba 860 Have To Offer?
Right off the bat, you’re going to notice that the iRobot Roomba 860 is a very simple robot vacuum. In the box, you’ll find the robot vacuum, the charging dock, a Virtual Wall Barrier, and that’s about it. You won’t find a remote control, or anything of that sort. Instead, this is just a basic and simple robot vacuum that gives you some excellent cleaning power.
On top of the vacuum, there is a button. This button says “Clean”. Just press this button, and the Roomba 860 will begin to clean your home. You can create a schedule for the Roomba 860, as well, if you would like to have it clean at certain times.
It cleans your home by using a technology known as “iAdapt Responsive Navigation”. This is a navigation technology that utilizes the sensors that are located within the Roomba 860 to navigate the robot vacuum. Using this technology, the Roomba 860 can know where it is, and where it needs to go. Instead of bumping into walls and various objects, the Roomba 860 can glide across the surfaces and spaces within your home, without causing any issues.
Dirt Detect Sensors are also used to aid the navigation process. These Dirt Detect Sensors aid in sensing dirt, so that the Roomba 860 can then vacuum all of it up. If the Roomba 860 is moving across a hardwood floor, for example, and there’s dirt on that floor, the Dirt Detect Sensors will detect it and clean it up.
If you want the Roomba 860 to only clean in a certain area, you can use the Virtual Wall Barrier. This is a small device that you set in front of the door or entrance/exit to the area you don’t want the Roomba 860 to leave/enter. It emits a signal, and this signal tells the Roomba 860 not to cross.
In terms of cleaning performance, the Roomba 860 gives you enough cleaning performance for any hard floor. But, softer floors, such as carpets and rugs, are more challenging. This is because the material is denser, and the suction power isn’t always capable of getting into the folds of that carpet/rug, and removing the dirt and dust within it. But, for hard floors, the Roomba 860 will give you no problems!
Ultimately, the Roomba 860 is a great robot vacuum that gives you plenty of suction power, for hard floors, and a couple of really nice and useful features. It’s by no means the most comprehensive or elaborate robot vacuum, but it doesn’t cost that much, and it gives you more than enough power and functionality for simple, but important, vacuuming tasks!
What Does The Roomba 890 Have To Offer?
In comparison to the Roomba 860, the Roomba 890 is a far more comprehensive robot vacuum. You have access to more features, and greater suction power, overall. But, this doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a better robot vacuum, simply a more robust one.
Instead of being limited to the buttons on the top of the robot vacuum, the Roomba 890 gives you smartphone functionality! You can use your smartphone to access features such as scheduling, as well as turning the vacuum on and off, and telling it to recharge. If you have an Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant device, you can use them to access those same features.
Through the use of a sensor system that is very similar to that of the Roomba 860, the Roomba 890 can navigate across the surfaces in your home. Just as with the Roomba 860, the navigation process is very efficient, and very simple. If there is dirt or dust, the Roomba 890 detects that, and then vacuums it up.
If you need the Roomba 890 to stay in, or out of, one place, you can use the Virtual Wall Barrier that iRobot has included. It’s identical to the one that the Roomba 860 comes with, and works just as well as that one.
Where the Roomba 890 differs, though, is the fact that it gives you a lot more suction power than the Roomba 860. Using the Roomba 890, you can vacuum up large swathes of dirt and dust on almost any hard floor, and it will be a smooth and quick experience. But, what’s quite nice is that you can also do the same on thin rugs and carpets. Thicker rugs and carpets will be more challenging, but thin ones will be fairly easy for the Roomba 890.
In the end, the Roomba 890 is more expensive than the Roomba 860, but it gives you greater functionality, and some fantastic cleaning power! Having that cleaning power makes it a lot easier to more effectively vacuum the different areas in your home.
What Does The Roomba 891 Have To Offer?
When you take the iRobot Roomba 891 out of the box, you’ll notice that it doesn’t come with a Virtual Wall Barrier. But, it comes with everything else that the Roomba 890 comes with.
In many ways, this exemplifies the approach that iRobot took with the Roomba 891. It’s the Roomba 891, a higher number than the Roomba 890, but it lacks a key feature of that vacuum, and doesn’t offer anything particularly new or novel.
With the Roomba 891, you have all of the basic features and design traits that the Roomba 890 gives you. For example, you have smartphone functionality, as well as Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant functionality.
Using any of those devices allows you to create a custom schedule for the Roomba 891. You can use this schedule to set the exact time, and date of when you want the Roomba 891 to clean your home.
Using those same devices, you are also able to turn the vacuum on and off, at any time and place, as long as the Roomba 891 has a Wi-Fi connection. And, of course, you can tell the Roomba 891 to charge itself, at any time/place.
While these are pretty basic features that you can find the Roomba 890, they do enhance the overall functionality of the Roomba 891, and make it an easy vacuum to use.
When the Roomba 891 starts to clean your home, it uses Dirt Detect Sensors to detect dirt and dust, and then it stops and cleans those surfaces more thoroughly. When this isn’t happening, the Roomba 891 uses basic navigation sensors to move around, and to adjust itself if it is about to hit something.
What makes the Roomba 891 a worthwhile purchase, is the fact that it gives you a lot of suction power and general cleaning efficiency. You can use the Roomba 891 to clean all kinds of different surfaces, and it’s able to clean those surfaces in a quick and speedy manner.
Now, with thick surfaces, it can be a little challenging. But, for surfaces that are either hard, or made of a softer material, but not too thick, then the Roomba 891 doesn’t have many issues. Instead, the vacuuming process is effortless.
The Roomba 891 doesn’t offer anything that differs from the Roomba 890. In fact, it lacks the Virtual Wall Barrier that the Roomba 890 comes with. But, the Roomba 89 is also a little bit cheaper.
If you don’t care about the Virtual Wall Barrier, and want to save some money, then the Roomba 891 is a great robot vacuum!
