Jabra Elite 4 vs 85t Wireless Earbuds

Are you looking to buy reliable, effective, top-of-the-range wireless earbuds? You can’t go wrong with either Jabra’s Elite 4 Active or Elite 85t Truly Wireless versions. But what about when we compare the two?

The Jarba Elite 85t Truly Wireless has the edge in terms of comfort and noise isolation performance, as well as its capacity to support pairing with multiple devices. But the Elite 4 Active shouldn’t be overlooked, especially in terms of its customization capabilities, as its onboard controls can be remapped. Plus, the battery life of the 4 Active lasts a little longer.

Now, let’s go through the basics of using these nifty versions of wireless earbuds and see which would be the best fit for you.

Charging

The Elite 4 Active and the Elite 85t both utilize a USB-C port for charging. As you’d expect, the higher the charger’s standard, the better, as it shortens charging time.

Charging Times

The different devices have different charging times to achieve the same hours of battery life. The Elite 4 Active needs 10 minutes, while the Elite 85t needs 15.

If you want to be able to charge your earbuds without a cable or plug (i.e., using Qi charging), only the Elite 85t has this option.

Active Noise Cancelling (ANC)

Despite increasing consumer demand for an active noise cancellation feature with wireless earbuds, not every device on the market has this function. Both the 4 Active and the Elite 85t, however, do have this useful feature.

Microphones

A device’s microphone also impacts voice quality and noise cancellation. The new generation of earbuds uses several microphones rather than one, and the Elite 85t boasts an impressive six per earbud. The Elite 4 Active isn’t far behind in quality, with four inbuilt microphones per earbud.

Bluetooth

True Wireless Stereo (TWS) headphones, like these Jabra earbuds, use Bluetooth to work. The higher the version of Bluetooth, the more efficient the transmission quality and the better the energy consumption. The Jabra Elite 4 Active is equipped with Bluetooth 5.2, while the Elite 85t uses the 5.0 version, meaning that the former has the more effective, newer standard of Bluetooth.

Earbud Driver Size

The size of a headphone or earbud’s driver determines how effectively electrical energy is converted into sound. A larger driver, the better the bass or low tones reproduction. In terms of these two Jabra earbuds, both come with a driver size of 6 mm and, therefore, similar sound quality production.

Waterproofing

The IP certification of devices refers to the level of protection against liquids or solid objects. Both of these versions of Jabra earbuds have IP certification. However, they do differ in their degree of protection against water.

The Jabra Elite 4 Active comes certified with IP57, meaning it’s dust resistant and can be put in up to one meter of water for 30 minutes. The Jabra Elite 85t is certified with IPX4, indicating that it isn’t rated in terms of dust protection but is protected against water splashing from any direction. We can see, therefore, that both are water or sweat-resistant but should not be used while swimming.
