We tested the Levoit EverestAir Smart True HEPA Air Purifier under realistic and stringent conditions to determine if it did what they say it will. We found that among all the different makes and models we tested, the Levoit ranks favorably among comparably priced competitors. It is no wonder they won both the iF Design Award and the German Innovation Award.
Levoit EverestAir Overview
We found that from build quality to advanced technology, the designers of the Levoit EverestAir were serious about reaching their objective. They even included laser sensors to track particulate matter between PM 1.0 to PM10.
Filter
The Levoit is designed for rooms up to and including 558 square feet, assuming standard ceiling height. It uses a triple-filter arrangement to remove various impurities from the air, including particulate and chemical contaminants.
A nylon pre-filter traps visible particles like hair and dead skin. That is then followed by a high-energy particulate air (HEPA) filter. The HEPA filter traps anything as small as 0.3 microns in diameter which includes pollen, mold, smoke, and even most kinds of bacteria.
Finally, the Levoit passes the room’s air through an activated carbon filter. Activated carbon filters trap and hold odor molecules thereby removing smells from the air. But then it goes one step further. The activated carbon chemically decomposes much of the odor molecules and volatile organic compounds like cooking smells and fumes.
During testing, it was determined that in an appropriately sized room (not greater than 558 square feet,) each set of filters lasts between six and twelve months. This, of course, depends on the level of human traffic and the level of contamination the room is subjected to. It is safe to conclude, however, that the typical family living hall should result in filter longevity closer to the twelve-month mark.
Noise
We took special consideration when evaluating the Levoit for noise. It is a key factor for bedrooms, study rooms, offices, and audio-visual rooms. During testing, we recorded noise levels that barely passed the 25-decibel mark.
Design
To get an idea of what consumers thought of its aesthetic value we turned to social media, and were surprised to find that customers were more than happy with the design aspect of the unit. They felt that the design allowed them to integrate it within their living space design.
Purification Time
Pushing the limits of the manufacturer’s specification, we tested a room 558 square feet in area and found that it was able to filter the air in the room within twelve minutes. According o our calculations, this works out to a CADR, Clean Air Delivery Rate, of 30 cubic feet per minute.
We then went further and tested it in an open area, we found that the immediate area surrounding the Levoit filter remained relatively pure, protecting those closest to it.
Levoit EverestAir Conclusion
Overall, the Levoit Everest air lives up to its manufacturer’s promise. We found its build quality, along with its design features, and affordable price point makes it a serious contender among air filters.
