What Are The Features And Attributes Of The Whynter ARC-148MS?

Immediately, you’ll notice that this is a rather large Portable Air Conditioner. It weighs 73 pounds, and its frame is somewhat imposing. On an aesthetic level, it’s incredibly simple. It looks modern and sleek, with a fairly minimal design.

On the top of the air conditioner, you have a series of buttons. Buttons that correspond to the features of this air conditioner. Features such as the different operational modes, changing the temperature, and turning the air conditioner off.

Using this air conditioner, you can cool a room that is up to 450 square feet. You can use it in rooms and spaces that are larger, but it won’t be able to cool them as effectively as it is able to cool a room that is 450 square feet. However, it will spread air around your home, if the windows are closed.

When using the air conditioner, you’ll notice that there are four different operational modes.

– Auto Mode
– Cool Mode
– Dehumidify
– Fan Mode

Auto Mode simply uses the sensors to determine which settings are ideal. Dehumidify Mode enables you to get rid of the excess moisture that is in your air. This is especially useful if it’s a hot and humid day. With Cool Mode and Fan Mode, these modes simply bring more cool air into your room/space.

With the fan settings, you have three different speeds to choose from. Along with that, you can also change the direction of the air itself, with the press of a button.

Along with that, there is a timer that you can use. Using this timer, you can automate when you want the air conditioner to run, and which feature(s) you want to run at that time, as well as when you want it to shut off.

The buttons for these features are found at the very top of the air conditioner. But, along with that, you can access these same features using the remote.

You can adjust the temperature between 62-degrees, and 88-degrees.

In just a single day, provided it used for the entirety of that 24-hour period, 71 pints of water can be produced from the dehumidifier.

Water Drainage

To drain this water, you will have to connect it to some kind of drain option, similar to how you would with a washing machine. This is a bit inconvenient since the air conditioner doesn’t actually come with a drain bucket that you can use for the dehumidifier feature. However, it does make sense, given the sheer amount of water that is produced by the Whynter ARC-148MS.

Nevertheless, you can manually remove the water using your own bucket. But, there’s a good chance this will prove to be inconvenient and more annoying than anything else.

One of the great things about the Whynter ARC-148MS is that it doesn’t make that much noise, even when on a higher setting. At any given time, it’ll be producing about 55 decibels at noise. This is even the case when all of the airflow settings are maxed out.

When the air conditioner is running, it has a CFM of 292. Now, CFM stands for “Cubic Feet Per Minute”, and this just means that it can effectively cool 292 cubic feet, in just one single minute.

Ultimately, there is one flaw that needs to be mentioned. For some, this isn’t really much of a flaw, but for others, it really is, when you consider the air conditioner as a whole.

The price is quite high. Now, you are getting a really nice portable air conditioner, and the addition of a dehumidifier is also very nice, but at the same time, there really aren’t enough extra features to justify the hefty price-tag.

Sure, it’s a great portable air conditioner, but that doesn’t mean it should cost as much as it does.
