BLACK+DECKER QuickClean vs AdvancedClean [HNVC215B10 vs CHV1410L]

Handheld vacuums truly are a marvel, aren’t they? Imagine, somewhere in the not-too-distant past, an inventor was probably trying to finish off the salt at the bottom of the pretzel bag. Said pretzel salt ends up all over the floor, as it always does. A lightbulb appears over their head – what could they invent to improve situations like this? A handheld vacuum, of course!

BLACK+DECKER QuickClean vs AdvancedClean Overview

Finding a handheld vacuum that’s just right for your needs can really… “suck”. Get it?? Sorry. I really am. So this article will compare 2 fine examples, both from BLACK & DECKER. And hopefully, readers will be able to find their perfect handheld vacuum before their next pretzel salt catastrophe.

Surfaces and weight

Both the QuickClean and the AdvancedClean are multi-surface, which means you can use them on the carpet, hardwood floors, or whatever surface your snack spills on. Both are also portable and lightweight, as the Amazon reviews often attest to!

But it’s wise to note that the QuickClean weighs approximately 1.4 lbs., and the AdvancedClean weighs 2.6. That’s over 1 lb. difference, which can be important if the handheld vacuum is for someone with physical limitations!

Tools and attachments

The QuickClean is fairly basic (to read: no frills), so the only notable tool is for crevices. This tool is built in, so there are no small pieces to fall off, get lost and end up being the dog’s new chew toy. No attachments or extra tools, just a built-in standard feature.

The AdvancedClean really shines in the area of tools, so for anyone who’s “extra” about extras – this is for you! In addition to a slim nozzle that rotates 180°, there’s also a pull-out crevice tool and a flip-up brush, which means no dirt, dust, fur or crumbs will survive your cleaning sprees.

Filters and Cleaning

Both the QuickClean and the AdvancedClean feature a washable filter and dirt bowl, so users can easily clean and reuse them – a far cry from the vacuums of yesteryear, when buying bags was a chore in itself, let alone actually putting them on! We’ve come a long way, folks. Both products also feature a transparent dirt bowl, so that users can easily see when it’s time to empty it. Again, this a far cry from vacuum bags – or, as many of us remember them – randomly exploding dust bags! Ah, the good old days.

Battery and cleaning time

The QuickClean may be at a disadvantage in this area, as the “power” button must be pressed continuously throughout cleaning. If one’s finger gets tired and stops pressing, off goes the motor. In addition, several reviewers state that the lithium-ion battery lasts no more than 10-15 minutes before needing another (several hours long) charge. So when they say “quick” clean, they really mean it! The AdvancedClean does not need to have the power button held down while cleaning, and also features a lithium-ion battery.

However, the reviews are mixed regarding battery life. Many users are quite happy with theirs and claim to have used theirs for a whopping 20 minutes of cleaning, while others state that the battery dies in less than 10 minutes! But overall, it looks like the AdvancedClean would have a slight advantage in cleaning time due to the whole “not pressing the power button all the livelong day” thing.

Suction

The QuickClean boasts up to 8V of cleaning power. Up to. But according to several reviews, the suction is fairly decent for such a small vacuum. There are a handful of users who claim the suction is not very strong at all, but by and large, there are more users who are satisfied with it. And considering that you have to hold that power button down while using it, at least it has decent suction (in the opinion of the majority).

The AdvancedClean has a clear advantage in suction, as it features 16V of cleaning power – twice that of the QuickClean! In addition, it uses a cyclonic action inside, contributing to its strong suction. And as we’ve mentioned before, you don’t need to hold the power button, which means you can just turn this baby on and go trap dust and debris inside your little handheld cyclone. Which sounds a lot cooler than just saying you’re “housecleaning”.

AdvancedClean (suction): 5 stars

Design

As far as design goes, the QuickClean is as basic as it gets. No muss, no fuss, no coconuts. It’s one-piece, with no attachments, no bells, and whistles. The handle has a trendy (and more comfortable) ergonomic design, but other than that, there’s not much to remark on. The QuickClean is the epitome of basic!

The AdvancedClean is a different species in design, just as it was with tools. It features a built-in extension, which you pull out when needed – and saves your back from having to stay bent over while cleaning up that one bit of fur in the corner of the couch. The handle, surprisingly, is not ergonomic. But if your back is the main concern (as it is for most of us over 30), then this would probably be your best bet.

Which is best?

Although both handheld vacuums have their unique qualities, the AdvancedClean appears to have more advantages. If the extra weight is not an issue for you, it would be the best in terms of features and performance. Plus, it’s super fun to call it “cycloning” instead of “vacuuming”.

However, if you prefer the lightest weight product with no frills, the QuickClean would be your best (basic) bet! No, there’s no cyclone or fancy gadgets to flip out like an undercover spy, but sometimes you just want to clean up the pretzel salt and move on with your day.
