In this quick comparison guide, we’re looking at two notable air purifiers; They are the Winix 5300-2, and the Winix 5500-2.
You may have never heard of Winix, and that is understandable because they aren’t one of the most popular air humidifier brands. However, when it comes to delivering excellent products that are affordable, durable, and effective, Winix is an excellent choice!
The Winix 5300-2 and Winix 5500-2 are two of the best air purifiers from Winix, and today, you’re going to learn why that is.
Before we get into these two, though, let’s look at what an air purifier is, and why it’s important to own one.
What Is An Air Purifier?
An air purifier is a device that takes in air, and then, using a series of filtration mechanisms, purifies the air and releases it back into your home, without the germs and allergens that are often found in the air that hasn’t been purified.
If you suffer from allergies or things like asthma, then an air purifier is almost a necessity. The filters that most air purifiers use enable the device to remove very small particles. Particles that can easily trigger things like asthma and allergies.
Air purifiers can also remove various odors and stenches, which can be useful if you have pets or often have to deal with those kinds of things.
One of the biggest reason it’s so important to own an air purifier is because breathing in dirty air – air that is full of bacteria and germs and other nastiness – can have a very nasty effect on your health. It can lead to a sickness of all sorts – such as fevers and colds, among others – and it can heighten things like allergies. If you have been painting your home, for example, it’s also good to get one, because paints are considered “gaseous pollutants”, and they, too, can have a nasty effect on your health.
The Winix 5300-2
Weighing 18 pounds, the Winix 5300-2 isn’t particularly large, but it isn’t that small, either. Instead, it’s in the middle, when it comes to size, as well as the number of square-feet that it can cover.
Using the Winix 5300-2, you have a Maximum Area Coverage – MAC – of 360 square feet. The room/space the air purifier is in, the unit can capture up to 99.97% of airborne particles. Things like pollen, pet dander, as well as certain odors and scents, among many other particles. This is done using a three-stage process.
Now, the purification process is done using a True-HEPA filter. Now, the word “HEPA” stands for “High-Efficiency Particulate Air”. Essentially, this type of filter is designed to isolate very small particles. So, the Winix 5300-2 can capture particles that are as small as 0.3 microns.
Using “Smart Sensors”, the air purifier can sense the air quality in whatever space it has been placed in. From this information, it will adjust accordingly, going from, say, Low Speed to Medium Speed.
At the end of the day, this is a great air purifier. It works very well, is affordable, and as simple and basic air purifiers go, this is one of the best. And, it works within large spaces, and has an excellent filtration system!
The Winix 5500-2
On the surface, there really isn’t that many differences between the Winix 5300-2 and the Winix 5500-2 Air Purifier.
It’s the same basic air purifier. You have the same Maximum Area Coverage – 360 square feet – and you have the same Smart Sensor technology.
However, there is one big difference that must be noted.
You have the same basic True-HEPA filtration system set up in the Winix 5500-2, and then you have another filter, too.
The filter in question is known as a “Washable AOC Carbon Filter”. It’s made of carbon granulars that have been activated, and it has been designed with one main purpose: to remove any, and all, household odors.
So, if you live in a home where there are constantly strange stenches, odors, and aromas roaming around, then this is a great choice!
You have all of the same features that the Winix 5300-2 possesses, as well as the inclusion of a great filter that enables you to remove odors!
If you want a basic air purifier that works well, and you don’t need any special filters, you can’t go wrong with the Winix 5300-2. However, if you want an air purifier that has all of that, but can remove odors, then the Winix 5500-2 is more than ideal.
