If you’re on the lookout for a smart and secure home security camera that won’t cost you the earth, Wyze have got you covered with their Wyze Cam 1080P and Wyze Cam Pan 1080p models.
But which one should you spend your money on? That’s the question on everybody’s lips, so we decided to compare both models so you don’t have to.
Let’s take a look at what these home security cameras have to offer.
Initial thoughts
Wyze are a well-known technology brand, who specialise in these two home security cameras. They’re cheap and affordable for anyone, and whilst these two models vary in some aspects, they have a number of similar features which make them great.
Let’s look at their initial differences.
The Wyze Cam has dimensions of 2.2 x 1.97 x 1.97 inches, and weighs in at a mere 100g, which means it’s small and lightweight enough to fit practically anywhere in anyone’s home.
Compared to this, the Wyze Pan comes in at 5.02 x 2.36 x 2.36 inches, making it almost double the size, and weighs in at 249g. Whilst bigger and heavier than the original, the Pan is also discreet enough to be placed almost anywhere in the home.
It’s important to note that even with their differences, Wyze have decided to keep a few things exactly the same. You’ll find both devices have a CPU of 1.0GHz, RAM of up to 128MB, a resolution of 1080p and an 8x digital zoo, meaning that you can rely on the same quality of camera no matter which model you decide to invest in.
View ability
The starkest contrast between these two gadgets comes from what they can capture.
The original Wyze cam is installed with a 110-degree camera, which allows a full field of vision so that you never miss a moment on record.
On top of this, night vision is readily available, and your Wyze cam will easily pick up any movements that take place under the cover of darkness. Two clever IR LED lights enable the cam to have good visibility of up to 30 feet, so nothing will be missed.
In comparison, the Wyze Pan offers way more in terms of view ability. With a 120-degree view, this camera promises to capture every little movement. This is the reason for the Pan Cam being larger and heavier than the original. It has all the extras to help stabilise and maintain panning and tilting action which is paramount in allowing the Pan its 120-degree view.
Additionally, the Pan offers 6 IR LED lights to enable its night vision camera to have extended vision during the hours of darkness. Whilst these extra LED lights don’t enable this camera to see further, it does enable it to capture clearer images at a further range.
App capabilities
As with most modern technology nowadays, you can be connected with your Wyze security cameras 24/7, and even command them to work through apps.
Both models can be paired with Google Assistant and Amazon’s Alexa for that extra ease of use. This is paired with the live-stream function that you can access through a specially designed app.
Now you can use voice activation to check on your home and make sure everything looks as it should. And, what’s more, you can use the two-way audio function to speak with family and friends in your home, even when you’re not there.
If that wasn’t enough, you can now share your live stream videos with other family members who want to keep an eye on what’s happening. If you’re away from the home and need to call upon another set of eyes to help keep your home safe, that’s a possibility with these fantastic security cameras.
All they need to do is download the app and connect to your account, which can all be done with the touch of a button.
Motion and sound storage quality
Once again, both cameras have been given the same amount of storage quality, so you don’t have to miss out on any of the fun, even if you choose the original Wyze Cam.
When either of the Wyze cams detect motion or sound, they immediately and automatically record a 12-second video clip which will be saved and stored in the cloud for up to 14 days.
You’ll be immediately notified too, via handy push notifications which means you don’t have to be constantly monitoring the app and can spend time going about your day to day business without worrying about what’s happening at home.
Conclusion
Wyze have been clever in ensuring that both security cameras contain mostly similarities. By not sacrificing any of their fantastic extras, such as camera quality and those wonderful features we all know and love, they deliver a good quality product no matter which you decide to choose.
With this in mind it’s always good to consider the size of your space and whether you need to spend that little bit extra on a panning camera, as the original is practically just as good, if you can capture everything you need within those 110-degrees.
That being said, the Wyze Pan Cam takes the crown on this occasion, due to its fantastic extra 10 degrees of visibility as well as its ability to tilt and pan, and those extra IR LED lights that help keep your eyes peeled even under the cover of darkness.
If you’re looking for the whole package, definitely invest those extra $12 and see for yourself just how well you can secure your own house for.
