When it comes to air purifiers these days there are numerous makes and models to choose from. It can be confusing, which is why we narrowed down the choices by breaking them down to their essential elements and comparing the features, aesthetics, and efficiency of the models, so you don’t have to.
Medify MA-125 vs MA-112-UV Overview
We also scour social media and investigate consumers’ comments and impressions of what they are looking for in air purifiers to understand the difference between what features are nice to have and what are necessary.
Particulate Size
We found that the Medify MA-125 and the Medify MA-112 UV are designed to filter particles as small as 0.1 microns in diameter. They were both found to be 99.99% efficient as per the measurements before and after their respective cleaning cycles.
To place it in context, biological contaminants like pollen, cat allergens, mold, dust mites, and bacteria range between 0.1 microns and 100 microns. All heavy dust ranges between 1 and 1000 microns, while atmospheric dust can get as small as 0.001 microns, but they are rare and not usually found in domestic environments. Smoke presents smaller particles ranging from 0.01 microns to 1 micron.
In this regard, both models resulted in post-purification standards that were identical.
Room Size
The MA-125 can filter the air in large areas and is suitable for spacious homes and medium-traffic offices. It scrubs the air in a 4100-square-foot space in an hour. A smaller room was also tested for this evaluation. The MA-125 cleaned a 1000-square-foot room in under fifteen minutes. It uses a 132W motor and has a 9-speed fan speed adjustment.
The MA-112 UV was able to purify a 5000-square-foot space in one hour to high standards of cleanliness. We attribute this to the 95-watt motor that moves a large quantity of air in a given period. The difference between the two models is MA-112’s UV light which makes a large difference in the ability to purify the air.
Filter
The MA-125 employs a three-stage filtration process. The first stage prevents larger particles like hair and heavy dust from entering the filter box. This pre-filter is washable and goes a long way in allowing the other filters to perform their functions better. Just wash it under running water periodically.
The next stage is the H14 Hepa filter. This is where pet dander, pollen, and anything as small as 0.1 microns are captured. It is then followed by an activated carbon filter that removes odors and gaseous contaminants.
The M-112 UV has the same filtration setup, except it adds one more layer of filtration at the end. This is the UV light that kills bacteria and viruses to a high degree.
Noise Level
The Medify MA125 and 112-UV use large and powerful fans to circulate the air in the room as quickly as possible.
The MA125 has nine-speed settings and at its highest speed emanates 67 decibels. The MA112 on the other hand has four fan speeds and emanates 70 decibels at its highest setting.
The point to note is that the MA112 and 125 were not designed with the bedroom in mind and so the sound profile was not a priority. It is also capable of cleaning large rooms which means the sound levels dissipate across greater lengths when placed further away from quiet zones of the room.
Aesthetics
Aesthetically, the two models are almost identical. They come in two options, either black or white. The Medify MA125 measures 32.4 x 19.7 x 19 inches and weighs 44 pounds. The MA112UV measures 32.65 x 19.5 x 19 inches and weighs 45 pounds.
Both have a strong and sturdy look that manages to blend into almost any office, loft, or gallery setup.
Conveniences
The MA-112UV and the MA-125 come with a filter replacement indicator that tells you when you need to change the filters. This makes it convenient and precludes the need to open up the filter box to visually inspect it periodically.
If you have young kids in the vicinity, you might want to have the safety of having a child lock. Only the MA-112 UV offers this convenience.
Both models have timers. The MA-125 has a 24-hour timer while the MA-112UV only has an 8-hour timer.
