The Echo Dot 1st Generation

But, the microphone has been improved, and the speakers are louder and clearer.

That’s because more and more apps and programs were being developed specifically for Alexa. You can, however, find many of these apps and programs for the first version of this device.
This device offers both BlueTooth and Wi-Fi functionality. You can connect your smartphone, computer, and speakers – among other devices – to the Echo Dot 2nd Generation. But, along with that, you can also link some Smart Home gadgets if you own them.
The Echo Dot 3rd Generation
The Echo Dot 3rd Generation is like the Echo Dot 2nd Generation. But, funnily enough, at first glance, you might not recognize that. Amazon developed a new design for this device, and it looks different but, more importantly, a lot more sleek and unique.
Regardless of that aesthetic difference, though, this device is very similar to the 2nd Generation variant of the Echo Dot. You will find the same features and functions. There is a bundle of great apps and programs to choose from, and you can also connect this device to your other devices.
Beyond the single aesthetic difference, and the numerous similarities, this device does have a speaker system that is significantly better than the Echo Dot 2nd Generation. These speakers are louder, they sound much cleaner, and the sounds are far rich and more detailed.

The Echo Dot 4th Generation
The Echo Dot 4th Generation is the latest variant of the Echo Dot. Just about everything this version of the Echo Dot offers is the same as the Echo Dot 3rd Generation. But, there are two unique features that may make this the best version of the Echo Dot to purchase.
Right away, the most notable difference is the design and aesthetic of this device. Rather than being flat and looking a lot like a disk, this device has a spherical appearance that, while still small, is a little easier to notice. But, what’s cool is that the entirety of this device’s surface is covered by a speaker and microphone, which improves the quality of the microphone, as well as the quality of the audio.
Just as mentioned, there is one other notable difference. This difference is that you can use this device to call people completely hands-free. All you need to do is connect this device to your smartphone or to another device.

I can call people handsfree on my Echo Dot 2nd gen too. You neglected to mention that with each new device Amazon releases they add a new language. Older devices do not get those new languages.
